Golden Clock: A Story About Pride, Change, and Friendship

Golden Clock is a children’s story written by Hossein Lotfali, illustrated by Homa Nezam Abadi, and edited by Zohreh Nezam Abadi. At the heart of the story is a simple but meaningful lesson: true value does not come from appearance, and friendship is built on respect and kindness.

A beautiful golden wall clock arrives at a house and immediately attracts everyone’s attention. Shiny and elegant, the new clock becomes proud of its appearance. There is also an old table clock in the house, a clock that has quietly served the family for a long time.

But the Golden Clock does not appreciate the old clock. Instead, it looks down on it and behaves arrogantly. Its words and behavior hurt the old clock so deeply that the old clock is eventually moved to the storage room.

The Golden Clock now has the place to itself.

However, life does not always remain the way we expect.

One day, a boy and his visiting friend are playing with a ball in the house. By accident, the ball hits the Golden Clock. It falls to the floor and is badly damaged.

Suddenly, the clock that once seemed so proud and important is broken and helpless.

The family brings the old clock back from the storage room so that it can once again show the time. The two clocks meet again—but everything has changed. The Golden Clock no longer has its former confidence. Its beauty is damaged, and it is afraid that the family will throw it away.

When the family decides to put the broken clock in the trash, the Golden Clock becomes deeply sad. Its pride has completely disappeared.

Fortunately, the father decides to give the clock another chance. Instead of throwing it away, he takes it to a clockmaker.

The clockmaker explains that the clock’s original outer case is too badly damaged to repair. The solution is to give the clock a new case.

After being repaired, the clock returns home with a completely different appearance.

The old clock sees the newcomer and begins talking about a friend it once had—the Golden Clock. It says that it misses its old friend and is sad that the Golden Clock is gone.

Then comes the moment of truth.

The new clock reveals that it is actually the Golden Clock itself. It has simply returned with a new appearance.

The Golden Clock sincerely apologizes to the old clock. It admits that it was once proud of its beauty and treated the old clock disrespectfully. Now, after everything that has happened, it understands its mistake.

The old clock forgives it.

The two clocks become friends.

A Lesson Beyond Appearance

Golden Clock uses the simple world of two clocks to explore an important lesson for children: being beautiful or new does not make someone better than others.

The story also shows how difficult experiences can change us. The Golden Clock learns humility after losing the very thing it was most proud of. Through this experience, it discovers something more valuable than appearance—friendship, respect, and kindness.

The story encourages young readers to appreciate others, avoid judging people by their appearance, and understand that everyone deserves respect.

Sometimes, losing what we are proud of can help us discover what truly matters.
